At Carleton St Hilda’s School, Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) is designed to help children develop essential life skills and knowledge. Our curriculum covers key topics such as emotional well-being, healthy lifestyles, relationships and safety.
PSHE reflects the needs of our children. It supports their spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development and promotes British values. It aims to provide children with the knowledge, skills and understanding to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
At St Hilda’s our curriculum is focused on SCARF, a comprehensive scheme of work for PSHE and Wellbeing education which is designed to cover all aspects of PSHE, including RSHE, in a spiral curriculum. The SCARF curriculum is based on five values which provide a basis for children’s health, their emotional well-being and their achievement: Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship.
We aim to create a supportive and inclusive school environment in which children
- have positive self-esteem
- can develop the skills to self-regulate and understand their own and others’ emotions
- build confidence, resilience and a sense of responsibility.
- have a good understanding of their own mental and physical health and wellbeing
- understand how to manage risk, stay safe and ask for help
- be able to develop positive, healthy relationships now and in the future
- appreciate difference and diversity
- develop their understanding of our diverse and complex world, becoming respectful and morally responsible, active members of society
The skills learnt in PSHE can also be transferrable to other areas of the curriculum and prepare children for life after St Hilda’s School.
