At St Hilda’s, we are passionate about creating a safe, inclusive, and happy environment for all our children. Inspired by the teachings of Jesus, we strive to embody His message of love, compassion, and respect for one another. One of the key initiatives that helps us achieve this is our Buddy Champions programme.

Who are the Buddy Champions?

Our Anti-Bullying Champions include a team of Buddy Champions from Year 5 and 6. These specially trained children have volunteered to promote kindness and support their peers. They play a crucial role in fostering a positive school culture and are always ready to lend a helping hand.

What do they do?

Peer Support: Buddy Champions are approachable and friendly children who other children can talk to if they are feeling upset or worried. They provide a listening ear and help to mediate conflicts peacefully.

Awareness Campaigns: They organise activities and events throughout the year to raise awareness about the effects of bullying and the importance of kindness and respect. This includes presentations during worships and fun events like “Kindness Week”.

Role Models: By demonstrating empathy, respect, and leadership, they set a positive example for their peers. They actively encourage others to stand up against bullying and promote a culture of inclusivity – embodying our school motto.

Reporting and Support: Buddy Champions help in identifying bullying incidents and ensure they are reported to the appropriate adults. They also provide immediate support to affected children, helping them feel safe and valued.

Training and support

All Buddy Champions undergo special training sessions where they learn about the different forms of bullying, conflict resolution strategies, and how to offer support effectively. They are guided by our dedicated staff, who provide continuous support and mentoring.

How can you get involved?

We encourage all children to take part in our Anti-Bullying initiatives. Whether by becoming a Champion, participating in our events, or simply by showing kindness every day, every child can make a difference. Parents and carers can also support by discussing the importance of anti-bullying at home and encouraging their children to be active participants in creating a bully-free environment.

Celebrating our Champions

We are incredibly proud of our Buddy Champions and the work they do to make St Hilda’s a better place for everyone. Their dedication and compassion are what help our school thrive as a community. Keep an eye out for our Buddy Champions around the school and don’t hesitate to say hello or share a high-five!
